The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) is a program administered by the Government of Alberta that allows individuals with certain skills and experience to apply for a nomination for permanent residence through the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP). The AAIP is intended to help Alberta attract and retain skilled workers who can contribute to the province’s economy and support its long-term growth.
To be eligible for the AAIP, individuals must meet certain criteria related to their work experience, education, language proficiency, and other factors. They must also be able to demonstrate that they have the skills and experience to fill a job in an in-demand occupation in Alberta and that they have the intention to live and work in the province on a permanent basis.
The AAIP has several streams, each of which has its own specific eligibility requirements. The streams include:
- Skilled Worker: This stream is for individuals who have a job offer from an Alberta employer in a skilled occupation.
- International Graduate: This stream is for international students who have graduated from an Alberta post-secondary institution and have a job offer from an Alberta employer in a skilled occupation.
- Self-Employed Farmer: This stream is for individuals who are interested in starting or purchasing a farm in Alberta.
To apply for the AAIP, individuals must first create an online profile and submit an expression of interest through the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program’s online portal. If the individual meets the eligibility requirements and their expression of interest is accepted, they will be invited to apply for a nomination for permanent residence through the AAIP. If the individual is successful in obtaining a nomination, they can then apply for permanent residence through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The processing time for an AAIP application can vary depending on the specifics of the case.
